We Should All Be FeministsWe Should All Be Feminists by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

The book defines a feminist as anyone who wishes to have equality of gender. An idealistic thought, but difficult to realize in a male dominated society. So should we not aim for it? No definitely one should aim for it. As the author rightly points out in one place it requires us to provide a different upbringing to our children of either gender.

Any for of equality requires education and a social revolution. It will take a few generations for the humans to accept the equality. It took quite a while for women suffrage, today after close to a century we are talking of the possibility of a woman becoming the President of what is considered to be the most powerful country in the world. One can also see where the resistance to a woman President is coming, the while male.

It took a while for legal abolition of slavery and it took more than a century for it to be really implemented in some manner. It is still an unfinished task, the white supremacy has not yet petered off.

Similarly the gender equality will require a lot of social change. What Chimamanda wishes for will take time to be realized.
