Travels with My AuntTravels with My Aunt by Graham Greene
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

A nice read about a retired bank employee leading a peaceful life in some idyllic town of England. His life takes a turn when he passes away and meets his aunt, his mother’s sister, at the funeral. He has not met her for many years. She draws him into her circle and starts taking him for her tours abroad. It is truly a different experience for somebody who had never traveled out of his town.

During these trips she relates details of her life which involve various escapades that she had with the different men in her life. One of the first thing she reveals to him is that his mother was not his real mother but a step mother. This gives him the first shock. Slowly little by little he becomes inured and drawn into her tumultuous life.

He is taken to Turkey, to France and finally he finds himself traveling to Paraguay in South America. Here his aunt finally decides to settle down with a man whom she has loved, earlier in her life, and has been cheated out of her wealth by him. He finds himself settling with his aunt and her lover and helping them run a business of smuggling goods from Panama and selling them in the black market in Paraguay and Argentina.

A decent read.
